The below are some observations installing Fedora-20 by a non-linux user, who does not work in computers field. =================================================================== - "Set keyboard to default layout for selected language" - User feels doubtful whether to set keyboard to default layout for selected language. - Not clear what will EXACTLY it do to the keyboard. - It could indicate that the user could do the setting later. - "Quit" and "Continue" buttons can be more VISIBLE and PROMINENT. - "Installation summary" panel - The "Done" button should be at the same place as "proceed" - Date and Time setting -- Scroll bar doesn't work; - "Network Configuration" - It says "Please use the live desktop environment's tools for customizing your network configuration. You can set the hostname here." - Question/Confusion: What ARE the "live desktop environment's" tools anyway? - "Installation Destination" - Feedback: The "Installation Options" pop-up window is just stuck in the middle. It should be flexible/movable so that the user can read the context behind the pop-up window. - "Encrypt my data. I'll set a passphorase later." -- Some verbiage WHY data should be encrypted, and HOW setting this option will help. And, what is the link with the passphrase. It sounds too complicated. - For new disks that have some old data, the RECLAIM DISK SPACE option is too confusing. - Deleting existing partitions to "reclaim the space" is too complex for the user to make a decision. DELETING == FEAR!! - In "Manual Partitioning" - What is a "mount point" and why exactly is it needed? - How many mount points are needed? And, HOW much exactly the space a user needs to provide for that? - Default size is MB -- but this is not specified anywhere and this is not helpful for a new user. - Total: 160GB - /boot -- Deesired Capacity -- 300 MB - /home -- 100 GB - / -- 50GB - "Warning checking storage configuration" - Elaborate? - SWAP space warning -- is it REALLY needed? - What does the "wheel" name mean in Group Membership, under "ADVANCED USER CONFIGURATION" - In "Configuration" panel, the verbiage of "Finish it and then click the Finish configuration button please." should make it clear to finish the configuration. - Once finish configuration is done, there should be a button for reboot instead of "Quit"
